Howlin' Ray's Hot Chicken - Pasadena

Howlin' Ray's Hot Chicken - Pasadena

Biter Score9.5

The best Nashville hot chicken spot, and the entire crew definitely brings the charm. Go to fried chicken spot whenever I’m in LA

What I ordered

Whole chicken wings: 9.3. I love wings and these don’t disappoint. It’s hard to find places that give you the whole wing, but this one I just love.Luis style chicken sando: 9.5. Honestly, there’s nothing about this sandwich that doesn’t hit the spot. The crunchy, buttery bread, the perfectly fried chicken, the cole slaw, the sauce - it was all meant to be together. I like the medium+ spice level, cus I think it takes yummy.Fries: i think their fries have gotten better over the years. I like them plain, and I also like the fries with everything on them! take your pick. 9.2

Hands down come for the tacos dorados. My favorites are the Rajas, requesón, and picadillo. The tostada raspada with cheese & cuerito is also super delicious with the pickled onions & the spicy salsa.

Delicious tacos. The Pastor was the star. 8.6 if it’s all the pastor offerings, + loved the homemade tortilla.

What I ordered

Al Pastor Vampiro: 8.9, the shell was perfectly crispy, the flavors were yummy. The char on the pastor and on the shell enhanced the flavorAl pastor taco: 8.6, again the char on the pastor really adds to this, and the drippings add yo the tortilla, so the flavors go really well together.Carne asada: 7, average carne asada taco. The guac was a great added bonus, wish the meat had more flavorQuesabirria taco: 6.7, we made the mistake of not getting the consomé, because I think that would have added a depth of flavor. Without it, it was really tender meat, but there are way better quesabirria tacos in LA.

Solid upscale steakhouse. Good for a celebratory dinner, or date night. Sit at the counter.

What I ordered

Amuse Bouche: that one little bite was heaven. 8.7Scallop Crudo: the coconut dashi was yummy, paired well with the light/freshness of the scallop. 7.7Oysters: this was absolutely delicious. Melon & cucumber went really well here, super light. The only thing is that the oyster was a little lost. 7.8Beef tartare: the thing that blew my mind was the crispy beef tendon. That tendon went perfectly with the beef tartare. No gamey-ness to it. 8.6Ribeye: high quality ribeye. Shareable for sure, didn’t blow my mind, but still a solid steak. 7.5Crispy potato, chickpea miso: could have done without this. It was just meh. 6.2
